Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have strongly condemned Israel’s airstrike on Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar, calling it a breach of international law and a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty. The European Union spokesperson stated that the strike risks further escalating violence in the region and undermining ongoing peace efforts. The EU expressed full solidarity with Qatar, a strategic partner, and emphasized the importance of avoiding any escalation in the Gaza conflict.

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have issued strong statements condemning Israel’s recent airstrike on Qatar, emphasizing violations of international law and the broader implications for regional stability.

David Casa, an MEP from Malta representing the European People’s Party (EPP), declared,

“Israel’s strike on Qatari territory is a blatant violation of international law. Such acts undermine regional stability and defy the basic principles of sovereignty. The European Union must respond with clarity and determination to uphold international norms.”

Danilo Della Valle, an MEP, expressed deep concern over the incident, stating,

“Israel’s recent strike constitutes a blatant breach of Qatar’s sovereignty and a violation of the UN Charter. This incident reflects a troubling pattern under Prime Minister Netanyahu’s leadership, wherein cross-border aggression appears aimed at undermining peace negotiations and perpetuating instability.”

In his post on X, he highlights his concerns over Israel’s military actions in multiple countries including Qatar.

Marc Botenga, another Member of the European Parliament, issued a stark critique of Israel’s actions, alleging,

“Israel is exterminating the Palestinians and has even started bombing Qatar, in an effort to sabotage negotiations in which Qatar plays a key role. Israel is a rogue state that disregards all principles of international law, aided by the complicity of the United States and European countries.”

In his Facebook post he said:

The Israeli airstrike targeted senior Hamas figures based in Doha, Qatar, where peace talks had been ongoing to negotiate a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict. The attack has sparked widespread condemnation and raised fears of escalating tensions in the wider Middle East region. The reactions from the European Parliament highlight the growing concern in Europe over the implications of the strike for international law, regional peace efforts, and EU foreign policy.

As the situation develops, calls within the EU for a firm and clear response underline the need to uphold sovereignty and support diplomatic solutions amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. This parliamentary reaction comes amid widespread international criticism of the strike, which has intensified concerns about the fragility of ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas.

Israel had conducted multiple military operations targeting Hamas and allied groups across the region, including Gaza, Lebanon, and other key locations. These operations intensified after the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel, with Israel targeting senior Hamas officials and infrastructure. The Qatar strike was unprecedented as Israel’s first known military attack on Qatari soil, where Hamas political leaders had convened amid U.S.-mediated ceasefire negotiations. The strike heightened regional tensions and was seen as part of Israel’s broader campaign to dismantle Hamas leadership outside Gaza, amid an ongoing and escalating conflict involving multiple regional actors.
