Dubrovnik (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – At the ECR’s Congress on the Family, MEP Antonella Sberna emphasized the urgent need for family-oriented policies to tackle Europe’s demographic and economic challenges.
On 20 October 2024, The Congress on the Family arranged by the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) party, with a clear and ambitious statement: Europe must shift its attention from a Green Deal to a new one Family Putting the family at the centre to deal with the demographic and economic issues of the continent.
Can family-focused policies solve Europe’s demographic crisis?
MEP Antonella Sberna vice-president of the European Parliament from Fratelli d’Italia/ECR in the final discussion stressed the need for a change of direction in European approaches.
“The demographic situation is an epochal challenge for the future of Europe,”
said Sberna.
“The Green Deal although handled with noble intentions has revealed some critical issues. Today, Europe must invest in the family to assure sustainable economic and social development.”
Is Europe’s population decline a threat to its stability?
Moreover, one of the key points raised by MEP Antonella Sberna was demographic decline, which endangers the future stability of the continent.
“The ageing of the population and the reduction in births are worrying phenomena,”
she said,
“but they can be managed with policies that support the birth rate and foster families.”
The Family Deal presented represents a program that seeks to promote economic and social development, allowing it to counteract demographic decline and guarantee community cohesion.
Also, the vice-president of the European Parliament urged European leaders to work together to formulate policies that support the growth of families, to construct a more cohesive and inclusive Europe.
“The future of Europe is the future of the family”,
concluded Sberna, receiving broad accord from the delegates present at the congress.
