Strasbourg (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – MEP Danilo Della Valle criticized the EU’s hypocrisy regarding Israel, urged an arms embargo, and called for support from the International Court of Justice.

During his speech in the EU Parliament, MEP Danilo Della Valle from the 5 Star Movement wore a t-shirt featuring a QR code linking to the visualizing Palestine website, which memorializes the names of all civilians massacred in Gaza by the Israeli Defence forces. Danilo Della Valle stated that the majority of the European Parliament was once again demonstrating its hypocrisy and double standards by preventing a resolution that included even a single word against Netanyahu from being voted on.

How does MEP Della Valle view Israel’s attacks on UNIFIL?

Danilo Della Valle remarked that by targeting the UNIFIL bases, Israel is attacking the UN, international law, and the Italian and European soldiers engaged in the peace mission. He emphasized that Israel’s goal is clear: to seek carte blanche in the Middle East and eliminate any potential witnesses to its war crimes.

He further stated that last week, the EU expressed concerns about these actions, but Israel responded by smashing a UNIFIL observation tower, showing a disregard for their requests. He highlighted the tragic toll of 40,000 dead in Gaza, hundreds in Lebanon, and thousands displaced, adding that there is also pressure on the UNIFIL contingent, which includes 1,200 Italian soldiers.

Why does Danilo Valle call for an arms embargo?

Moreover, MEP questioned what else needs to happen for the EU to lift the veil of hypocrisy and double standards, urging it to take a clear stand with the UN, the Palestinian and Lebanese populations, and the International Court of Justice. He asserted that the EU must approve an arms embargo on Israel and support the International Court of Justice in prosecuting Netanyahu.
