Maasmechelen (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The Night of the Thrift Store held its event the previous night at Kringwinkel Maasland in Maasmechelen. Shopping opportunities lasted until 9:30 in the evening for visitors. The establishment of a big new thrift store became possible in Leopoldsburg.
Kringwinkel Maasland in Maasmechelen opened its doors beyond regular hours at the Night of the Thrift Store until 9:30 pm last night. Night shoppers had the opportunity to browse the store while enjoying musical performances and drinks, which aimed to promote environmental responsibility and change public misconceptions about secondhand stores.
“We do this mainly to promote sustainability and reuse,”
Says Liss Awouters,
“and to remove the dusty image of thrift shops. As a custom company, we are also proud of what our employees can do.”
There were a lot of people during the evening shopping last night. Some were looking for clothes, but others were looking for a special bargain. Jan Gabriels, for example.
“I come and have a look regularly; you sometimes pick up things here. I had already seen something here, a statue, so if it is there, I will take it with me.”
“We already drive around in Leopoldsburg with our trucks for door-to-door collections on demand,”
Says the coordinator of the Biehal, Jochim Schrooten.
“Our ironing studio ‘de Strijkstapel’ and ‘het Wassalon’ have also been active in the municipality for years. The opening of the new Kringwinkel in Leopoldsburg is, therefore, a logical consequence of the wonderful collaboration that we have built up here in recent years.”
What is the background of thrift stores in the region?
The thrift stores managed by De Biehal maintain essential positions throughout the area that advance both sustainable practices and reuse. The company maintains prominent positions throughout Limburg by operating four stores in Lommel, Mol, Peer and Pelt while extending its reach to Leopoldsburg. In addition to pricing affordable second-hand goods, these shops create jobs within their communities by involving them in local activities.
The Night of the Thrift Store event in Maasmechelen demonstrates rising consumer interest in sustainable shopping because visitor Jan Gabriels finds special items at the event. The upcoming Leopoldsburg store will increase the sustainable shopping possibilities across the region through its expanded retail outlet.
