Lier opens 3 campervan spaces at Marieke Vervoortlaan sports park

Lier (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Lier adds 3 new campervan spaces at Marieke Vervoortlaan Sports Park. Alderman Ilse Lambrechts (N-VA) expands on 2 existing De Mol spots, offering 48-hour free parking with water, electricity, and facilities.

As VRT News reported, Lier, in the province of Antwerp, Belgium, sports Park will soon have 3 new parking spaces for campervans. They mentioned that the decision comes after the Lier Tourist Office received many questions from visitors about more campervan spots. 

Alderman for Tourism Ilse Lambrechts (N-VA) said campervan travel is growing in popularity. Many tourists now prefer trips that give them freedom and flexibility. They want to choose their own pace, decide where to stop, and explore new places on their own schedule.

What makes Lier’s new campervan spaces ideal for visitors?

3 new campervan parking spaces will open on Marieke Vervoortlaan, next to Lier’s Sports Park. The location was chosen for its mix of nature, sports, and culture. Alderman Ilse Lambrechts (N-VA) said visitors can walk or cycle to the city center or explore the nearby Netevallei. Now that the Sports Park renovation is finished.

According to officials, Lier provides 2 campervan spaces at the De Mol parking lot. The additional 3 spaces at the Sports Park will give visitors more choices. Free parking for campervans is available for up to 48 hours. Water and electricity is available for limited costs. Additionally, when the Sports Park is open, washrooms and showers can be used by travelers.

For a few years, the city of Lier has been providing travelers parking spots for campervans. In 2022, 2 parking spots were created at the De Mol car park on Aarschotsesteenweg. There are other similar projects in Belgium through the follow-up of “All the Aires”, which provides motorhome stopovers, which are located municipal venues mostly next to the sports center.
