Leuven (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Jochen from Leuven had his bike stolen twice. Using a tracker, he found it in Molenbeek inside a van full of stolen bikes. Police arrested the suspect, recovering many stolen items.

As VRT News reported, Jochen, a young man from Leuven, has had his bike stolen more than once. The first time, it disappeared from his shed. After that, he decided to protect his bike by putting a tracker on it.

One evening, when he was about to ride his bike, he saw it was gone. He checked the tracker and was shocked to see his bike was in Molenbeek, a neighbourhood in Brussels, which is far from Leuven.  Jochen was disappointed because his security measures didn’t work.

How did Jochen track his stolen bike to Molenbeek?

After his bike was stolen, Jochen’s plans with friends were ruined.  He and 2 friends drove to Brussels to find it. They used a tracker to guide them. The tracker led them to a hidden courtyard in Molenbeek.

He mentioned that even though the location was secret, the tracker showed exactly where the bike was. Jochen got his bike back. He mentioned that it highlights how trackers can help protect personal property in cities like Leuven.

Jochen and his friends were at home when their neighbours let them in. From their window, they saw a suspicious white van parked nearby. The van had a blue cover on top, but some bikes were sticking out.

Jochen checked his bike tracker. He then called the police, giving them the tracker data and a photo. This helped the police to act quickly, and they had a good lead.

The police soon found the van’s owner in a café nearby. When they asked him to open the van, it was packed with stolen bikes. Jochen’s bike was there, along with a scooter and a lawn mower. Because of all the evidence, the man was arrested and taken to the police station. Jochen, his friends, and the neighbors helped the police recover a lot of stolen goods and catch the suspect.

Jochen said,

“My bike is back home,” he says happily. “I am very grateful to the police for their help. The van was already ready to leave for abroad, so I was lucky. It was an exciting evening, because you don’t know where you’re going to end up. But most of all, I wanted my bike back.”
