Kortrijk (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Police in Kortrik’s VLAS zone conducted checks, finding an alarm pistol in a car and arresting a drunk driver. Two officers were injured during a fight, and a local drug dealer was apprehended in Roeselare.

The police in the VLAS zone of Kortrijk have been checking places like the train station and entertainment areas to keep everyone safe. Last weekend, they dealt with several issues and gave out some fines. One serious event happened at Nelson Mandelaplein, where officers discovered an alarm pistol in a suspicious car. These alarm pistols look like real guns and can make sounds like gunfire, which is very concerning.

What recent security challenges have arisen in Kortrijk and Roeselare?

Along with finding the alarm pistol, the police discovered that the driver of the car had been drinking alcohol, making the situation even more serious. Because the driver was drunk, the police took additional legal actions. It has been said that these regular checks show that the VLAS police zone is dedicated to keeping areas like Kortrijk’s train station and entertainment spots safe, especially where there are many people.

The police had to break up a fight on 27th September Friday night, and one person attacked them, injuring two officers who will be off work for a few days. The attacker was arrested and spent at least one night in jail. The VLAS police say their checks are working well because café owners and customers feel safer with police around. Even though they find a lot of traffic violations, there’s been a big improvement in traffic safety, with moped riders and delivery people now getting off their bikes instead of riding through the traffic-free B. Reynaertstraat.

Over the weekend in Roeselare, police increased efforts to deal with problems around the station and city center. They caught a local drug dealer in the act, and more drugs were found during searches at two homes. Along with Customs and the Immigration Office, they also checked food stores and day-and-night shops. Several reports were made, and one store on Ardooisesteenweg was shut down right away due to dirty conditions and health risks.
