What happened in the E17 accident near Kortrik?

After the accident this morning on the E17 towards Kortrijk the highway was completely closed from exit 8 De Pinte for several hours. This closure was needed so emergency services could help and a full investigation could take place. A traffic expert was brought in to look at the scene and figure out what caused the accident which made the closure last longer. Because of the closure there were big traffic delays with cars being redirected and long waits for drivers in the area. After several hours the towing work to remove the damaged vehicles was finished. Once the vehicles were gone the road was checked one last time to make sure it was safe for traffic. The highway has now reopened and traffic is back to normal. It has been said that this incident reminds everyone about the dangers on the road and the need to stay alert while driving.
