Knack Roeselare honoured at city hall after 16th title

Roeselare (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The Knack Roeselare volleyball team was honoured at Roeselare city hall for winning their 16th national title. Captain Matthijs Verhanneman retired and will become the new head coach next season.

As VRT News reported, on May 19, 2025, the volleyball club Knack Roeselare celebrated at the city centre hall in Roeselare for winning the national title for the 16th time. This year, Matthijs Verhanneman was also honoured with a special event at City Hall to mark his retirement from professional volleyball, after a remarkable career. Verhanneman is set to become the new coach, succeeding the successful coach Steven Vanmedegael, and beginning a new chapter as a leader from the sidelines. 

How will Matthijs Verhanneman lead Knack Roeselare as the new coach after a historic season?

According to officials, Matthijs Verhanneman’s team had a great year, winning many important titles. They first won the national cup. Then, they won the BeNe Conference, a competition with teams from Belgium and the Netherlands. They won the national championship. After a tough series of games, Verhanneman and his team won the title. 

Verhanneman remembers the team’s visits to city hall, even though they happened many times. These visits are special because the city thanks the team for their hard work. For Verhanneman and his teammates, this recognition is a great reward for their efforts and the support they get.

It was his 17th and last year playing for Knack Roeselare. After almost 20 years on the team, he will be the head coach next year. The club trusts him because he knows the team well and has always supported their values. He is excited to become a coach. He wants to lead the team from the sidelines, using his experience. He hopes to return to the city hall next year as a coach, being celebrated for leading the club.
