Brecht (Brussels Morning  Newspaper) Kevin Orban and Marc Van Ginkel made headlines after successfully breaking the record of darts in Brecht, Belgium, on January 20, 2025.

Kevin and Marc took turns, and they spent about 61 hours of nonstop darts throwing to help raise money for breast cancer causes and support. Friends and family filled the sports hall and cheered for a record-breaking moment.

I don’t regret it, but this was really the last time,”

Said Kevin, who had previously attempted two record-breaking feats.

Orban and Van Ginkel of Pink Flight made a world record by playing darts for 61 hours continuously. The game started on Friday at 7.00 AM and continued until Sunday evening, testing their limits. The last dart Kevin threw made him almost fall to the ground, but people rushed to him to congratulate him.

“I’m dead, dead, dead tired,”

he admitted, reflecting on the intense experience. Despite the exhaustion, both men felt content with the challenge; the emotional aspect was also referred to in order to portray the process of the record’s setting.

This spectacular event was being held to raise money for Pink Flight, whose founder is Kevin, and is helping patients suffering from breast cancer.

It has been some time since I became a widower through cancer. My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.”

As he expounded, since then, he has been arranging events to help him coronate some cash, literally ‘ring the bell!’. Pink Flight needs to address some needs that include but are not limited to distributing chemo caps and buying toys for kids in hospitals. While the total sum collected this weekend is unknown, Pink Flight received a check for 2700 euros from the organisers of the Dutch darts tournament Betuwe Cup.

Significance of darts records and community support

Darts records are regularly made not only due to the competitive streak but also due to the social aspect of coming together for the cause. This is true since Kevin Orban has previously embarked on similar efforts to break records in a bid to highlight issues related to breast cancer. He also focuses much of his time on his dedication due to our personal experiences, which are close and representative of many people’s ideas.

These community-related events not only assist in the garnering of funds, but they also pull together and promote unity among participants and those who support them. These events erupted to show that there is strength in unity, especially in contributing to the fight against aspects such as breast cancer. Such non-governmental organisations play their role by standing by patients and relatives during such moments as Pink Flight.

They have particularly been witnessed in the recent past, where people organise sports and physical challenges in an effort to source funds to support several causes. This approach offers a way of maintaining fitness while enhancing interaction with members of society and raising awareness of important health concerns. From this case, Kevin’s personal determination to raise money to support breast cancer patients through his record darts attempt was the drive that everyone needs to feel that they can achieve something while being inspired by someone’s personal story.

As Kevin stated,

“There were also tears involved,”

indicating that such endeavours are often emotional journeys filled with highs and lows. The success of this event brings out all aspects of sports as a unifying factor where people come together with one purpose while at the same time creating awareness of the course that is still being waged against breast cancer.
