Keerbergen (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Keerbergen Schaatst at Gemeenteplein will continue for 3 years. The 300 m² rink runs from December 6, 2025, to January 4, 2026. Mayor Jens Eggers and Alderman Maikel Iliaens highlight community, charity, entertainment, and local business support.

As VRT News reported, the end-of-year event “Keerbergen Schaatst” at Gemeenteplein, in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, will continue for the next 3 years. The continuation comes after a new multi-year agreement with the municipal government. Officials mentioned that the ice rink covers 300 square meters. Setting up the rink is expensive. Organisers said part of the cost will be covered by skate rentals and drinks sold at the rink.

“It is an investment from the municipality that we are happy to make to bring life to the centre and to fund the coffers of the Keerbergen associations,”

says Alderman for Events Maikel Iliaens (Keerbergen Voor U).

What plans ensure Keerbergen Schaatst ice rink runs for 3 years?

Mayor Jens Eggers of VLD Keerbergen said local businesses will be considered in the planning of the ice rink at Gemeenteplein. The city wants to support local shops while keeping the event festive. As in previous years, the winter bar will be run by a different Keerbergen club each day.

“For example, the passageway across Gementeplein will remain open to traffic in both directions this year, strategic short-term parking zones will be provided, and the ice rink will be planned in such a way that a maximum number of parking spaces is maintained.”

Special activities will be available for children and adults. Toddler Skating will take place every Sunday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. Parents can accompany their children on the ice for free. Adults can enjoy a special after-work event on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025.

The rink will feature live music by Rudy Jones and sets from local DJs. The event will also support De Warmste Week, adding a charitable element to the program. Alderman for Events, Maikel Iliaens, said these activities combine fun, community involvement, and charity.

The winter event “Keerbergen Schaatst” first opened in December 2021. The 300 m² ice rink on Gemeenteplein turned the town centre into a festive winter village. After successful editions in 2021–2022 and the following winters, the municipal government decided on April 24, 2025, to secure the event for 3 more years. The decision came after the previous season attracted about 11,500 visitors.
