Jakob Ingebrigtsen Relinquishes European Cross Country Title in Brussels

Editorial Team

Defending champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen will not come to the European Cross Country Championships in Brussels on December 10. This is evident from the publication of the Norwegian selection on Monday. He is said to be slightly injured.

In recent days there have been rumors that Ingebrigtsen would not come to Brussels, and this has now been confirmed by the Norwegian athletics association. The local press knows that it is a minor injury that has prevented the Olympic 1,500 meter champion from getting into top form in recent weeks. Henrik Ingebrigtsen, Jakob’s older brother, is part of the Norwegian selection for Brussels.

Since 2016, Jakob Ingebrigtsen has won gold every year at the European Cross Country Championships, be it with the U20 or the last two years with the elite. This year he broke the world record for the 2000 meters during the Memorial Van Damme.

Isaac Kimeli, who won bronze in Turin last year and silver in Tilburg in 2018, will have an excellent opportunity in Brussels to win the European title in the absence of Ingebrigtsen.
