Brussels (The Brussels Morning newspaper): Big trucks over 3.5 tons are banned from the bridge on weekends for safety during construction. Violators face fines of €174 plus €10.10 processing fee; police will increase enforcement.

According to resources, due to some necessary repairs on the surface for better safety and strength, no vehicle with more than 3.5 tons of weight can cross this overpass from Friday evening to Monday morning. This is to stop big trucks from coming and causing trouble while the renovations are going on. However, even though big-truck restrictions exist during certain hours, there are always truckers who do not want or cannot follow such orders. They either lack information about them or ignore them altogether, causing thus serious risks for themselves and other people who use the bridge since they go there when they are not permitted by regulations established by the authorities concerned. These situations could put people in danger and delay the work, making it hard for engineers to make the changes they wanted.

Will drivers comply with weekend truck restrictions?

It has been reported that some drivers have been warned various times not to do work during weekends, they still go ahead and drive large trucks across the bridge. Consequently, such actions lead to construction as well as safety issues. To make sure trucks don’t use this road, there will be more cops patrolling this weekend. The goal is to ensure rules are followed so the construction work can go smoothly and keep everyone safe while using the bridge.

It has been said that if people are caught driving a large truck over the bridge at times when it is strictly banned, there will be a fine of 14 grand €174. The fine is there to make sure people follow the rules that keep the roads safe during construction work. There will be an additional charge of €10.10 for processing in case this has happened again.
