Herk-de-Stad (Brussels Morning Newspaper) -Today, more than one hundred Ford Mustangs participate in the Haspengouw drive. The blossom ride exists due to the Limburg Mustang Club organising it. The first departure arrangements for this event took place in Herk-de-Stad.
Around 50 Ford Mustangs came together in Herk-de-Stad to create a Mustang paradise during a blossom drive of 90 kilometers through the Haspengouw region. Two remarkable events of departure and arrival took place at Herk-de-Stad in the Belgian province of Limburg, when organised by the Limburg Mustang Club. The collection of sports cars provided visual fascination because enthusiasts displayed their trucks to celebrate the Mustang’s unique characteristics.
The idea is to see and be seen.
“It’s just a beautiful car, the best I’ve ever had,”
says Kris Tresinie.
“I saved up for it for a long time, but I haven’t regretted it for a moment. I lowered the rims, put on a different grille and spoilers… I really customized it to my taste. I’ve been tinkering with cars since I was young.”
“A Mustang is ideal for cruising in good weather,”
Tony Knaepen adds. He bought the car at the request of his wife.
“She drove it to work every day for 3 years. Now she only drives it occasionally and I have to clean and maintain it. It is a car that is different from all other cars. You sit comfortably in it, it makes a nice sound, it accelerates well … we join activities from different clubs, we are all friends.”
“There is such a thing as a Mustang family,”
says organiser Petra Serniclaes.
“We meet regularly and we have a warm bond. There were already several clubs in Belgium, but as Limburgers we want to promote our beautiful province of Limburg,”
she says.
What is the history and popularity behind the Ford Mustang in Belgium?
The Ford Mustang emerged in 1964 to become a globally beloved American muscle automobile that Belgians strongly supported. In 2022, Ford Europe recorded more than 22,000 Mustang sales throughout the continent, and Belgium turned out to be among the leading markets. The Limburg Mustang Club, established in 2018, belongs to a group of Belgian clubs which host Mustang-oriented events every year for hundreds of participants.
People love Mustangs because of their strong engines, coupled with flexible physical appearance options, and their well-known position as symbols of freedom and performance. Right-hand-drive and electric versions of the Mustang released by Ford Europe in recent years contributed to increased sales numbers across the region.
