Hasselt (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Hasselt’s Sinterklaas House returns for its 4th year at the former Standaard Boekhandel. Organiser Jaak Nijs expects around 32,000 visitors to enjoy festive activities and decorations.

As VRT News reported, the Sinterklaas House in Hasselt is being rebuilt in the former Standaard Boekhandel on Maastrichterstraat. This marks the 4th year that the festive attraction returns to the city.

“Children can play fun games with the Pieten and Conchitas, feast on delicious speculaas, and listen to all the exciting stories Sinterklaas has to tell,”

says staff member Jaak Nijs.

“There’s also a cuddle room, a candy room, a laundry room with golden washing machines, and you can even visit Sinterklaas’s salon.”

What makes Hasselt’s Sinterklaas house expect 32,000 visitors this year?

Inside St. Nicholas’s castle, several activities are planned for young visitors. Children can bake gingerbread cookies in the kitchen, colour festive plates, and take part in the Piet course to earn a Piet diploma. There is also a rooftop path where children can walk as if they were helpers of Sinterklaas. Each space inside the building is designed to match the story.

The event has grown quickly over the years.

“In our first year, we attracted 8,000 visitors; in the second year, 16,000. Last year we ended with 26,000 and now we hope to reach 32,000 visitors,”

concludes Nijs.

The Sinterklaas House in Hasselt began in 2021 as a city project to bring holiday cheer to families. It quickly became a popular attraction, drawing thousands of visitors each year. The house changes location and theme annually to keep the experience exciting for children.
