Hasselt (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Hasselt PXL University of Applied Sciences students and police launched BeReal-style restroom posters today, Nov 20, 2025, to boost visibility of the student police and engage the campus community in a relatable way.
As VRT News reported, Hasselt PXL University of Applied Sciences has launched a bold poster campaign across its campuses today, Nov 20, 2025. The posters are displayed in student restrooms and are meant to grab attention and connect with students in a relatable way.
First-year Communication students played a central role in the project. They created the slogans and also modelled for the posters.
“We’re trying to bring the student police as close to the students as possible. And who better to embody that world than the students themselves? That way, the student police immediately feel more familiar,”
explains PXL student Ujeza.
What is behind the PXL Hasselt students and police BeReal-style poster campaign?
The design of the posters takes inspiration from BeReal, a social media app popular with young people. The app encourages users to take spontaneous photos of themselves and their surroundings at any time of day. The posters mimic this style.
“Everyone always thinks the police are very strict, but this way we want to show that young people don’t have to be afraid of Kris, our school inspector,” says student Maithe.
The posters at PL University of Applied Sciences are placed in campus restrooms, not in lecture halls or entrance areas. Students often have a few private minutes there and scroll through their phones. Each poster has a QR code that links directly to the student police’s social media channels.
“It might be an unexpected place, but that’s exactly why it works,”
says student inspector Kris Delvaux.
“As a student officer, I want to be visible and approachable. This way, I can be a natural part of student life, without coming across as preachy.”
In the LRH police zone, the student police are the main contact for young people at universities and colleges. They listen to students’ concerns and watch what happens on and around campuses. The student police provide an easy link between students and law enforcement, giving guidance, safety tips, and support.
“It’s a large target group. With all the schools combined, we have about 25,000 students. But they can always come to us, no matter what their problems are: from personal issues to conflicts with their landlord or even stalking, we hear about it all,”
says Kris.
“Kris has become quite well-known on campus, and we often approach him spontaneously. I really value that he’s always there for us. You can go to Kris for absolutely anything,”
says Maithe.
The student police program in the LRH police zone started in 2018 to connect students with law enforcement on campuses. It offers guidance, safety tips, and support for young people at universities and colleges. In 2022, the program worked with Communication students at PXL University of Applied Sciences to create poster campaigns with QR codes linking to social media channels.
