Hasselt (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – From May to September, the Kapermolen swimming pool in Hasselt welcomed 155,000 visitors, which is 17,000 more than last year, as alderman Tine Jans confirmed with new pricing and passes.
As VRT News reported, the Kapermolen swimming pool in Hasselt, which was visited during the May 2025 to September 2025 season, recorded 155,000 visitors, 17,000 more than the previous year. Additionally, 2022 had 172,000 visitors, and the following year, 2023, had around 167,000 visitors.
During the same 2023 season, between May and June, the pool recorded over 41,000 visitors. In the same season, 2 years ago, the number of visitors was just under 29,000. The open outdoor pools, which promote an increase in visitors, also contribute to the overall visitor count.
“June was a beautiful early summer this year, and that’s also when we see the biggest difference in visitor numbers,”
Says Sports Alderman Tine Jans (Voorit).
What keeps the Kapermolen pool in Hasselt attracting 30,000 visitors monthly in summer?
During the peak periods of July and August 2025, approximately 30,000 guests have been the case for the past 3 years. For the summer of 2022, July saw 34,000 swimmers, and August had just under 44,000 swimmers. Over the summer months, the Kapermolen swimming pool in Hasselt experienced higher levels of attendance.
The city’s alderman said the figures were affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
“If I had to go by my gut feeling, I’d say that although the summer was not completely free due to COVID restrictions, people were still eager to visit the outdoor pool,”
The alderman explained.
“The reintroduced 20-session pass has already been purchased over 300 times. This allows non-Hassel residents to swim for €3.50 per session during peak season.”
Tine Jans (Vooruit), Alderman for Sports
Since last year, the pool has used a new rate during the peak season from May to September. Residents of Hasselt between 18 and 65 years old pay €3.50. Non-residents are charged €10. Residents of Diepenbeek and Alken can also swim for €3.50 if they show a valid ID. The new rates are designed to keep the pool accessible for locals while welcoming visitors from other towns.
“We have reintroduced the 20-entry pass, and it’s already been purchased over 300 times,
Says Jans.
This allows non-Hassel residents to come swimming for just €3.50. Price increases don’t seem to be on the cards at this time.”
