Germany urges political solution after US captures Nicolás Maduro

Germany (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Germany’s foreign ministry has urged a political solution in Venezuela following US operation that attacked Caracas and captured President Nicolás Maduro.

The ministry said that a travel warning had been issued and that it was in close communication with the Caracas embassy.

“We call on all involved parties to avoid an escalation of the situation and to seek ways for a political settlement,

said a written communication obtained after a crisis team had met at the ministry.

“International law has to be respected … Venezuelans deserve a peaceful and democratic future,”

it added.

Its communication matched those made by EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who called for adherence to transnational law, and by Kaja Kallas, the EU’s top diplomat, who has also constantly stated that Maduro” lacks legality.” 

On Saturday, German politicians and pundits took differing positions. While some praised Maduro’s defeat, others denounced what they described as the departure of the rules- grounded order of thepost-1945 Western world. 

What diplomatic steps is Germany proposing to achieve a political solution in Venezuela?

Germany’s Foreign Ministry is championing for a political result in Venezuela through renewed political dialogue and multinational accommodations following the U.S. prisoner of Nicolás Maduro. 

Convene all Venezuelan stakeholders including opposition leaders like María Corina Machado under neutral transnational agreement to negotiate a transitional government and believable choices. Berlin’s actuated task force will liaise with the EU, UN, and OAS to grease addresses, prioritizing de-escalation and German citizens’ safety via delegacy channels in Caracas. 

These may echo broader EU calls from Kaja Kallas for UN Charter compliance and peaceful transition, with Germany emphasizing non-military paths amid its extremity monitoring as of January 3, 2026.
