Genk carjacking suspect arrested after police chase

Genk (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – On March 11, 2025, police in Genk arrested a 41-year-old man after a high-speed chase. He had stolen a car in a violent carjacking on February 28, 2025, in Schurfstraat. The car had a fake license plate, the CARMA police zone was investigating.

On March 11, 2025, the police found the stolen car in Genk. They tried to stop the driver, but he wouldn’t listen and sped away. He drove very fast through the city centre. He hit 2 cars, one of which was driven by a woman who got a small injury. The police kept trying to stop him, but he kept driving recklessly, trying to get away. He drove through many streets in Genk.

The chase ended in Grotestraat. The driver was trapped in heavy traffic and couldn’t go anywhere. The police quickly arrest him. The man is 41 years old and lives in Genk. He was taken to jail. 

One of the judges decided to keep the man behind bars as the case was investigated. The police continued to investigate the case and obtain additional evidence. They are interested in ensuring that the man gets punished for the actions he performed.

A woman was the victim of a violent carjacking in Schurfstraat, Genk, on February 28, 2025. After she got into her car and was about to leave, an unknown man suddenly forced his way inside. He had a weapon and threatened her, demanding that she drive to a nearby location. 

The woman was afraid for her safety, so she did what he said. When they arrived at the spot he chose, the suspect forced her out of the car and then sped away. The woman reported the incident to the police right away. They have started an investigation. The Limburg Public Prosecution Service and the CARMA police zone are in charge of the investigation.

“A crucial breakthrough,” the public prosecutor’s office said.
