Westerlo (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The sick driver from Oevel (Westerlo) suffered a serious accident that caused extensive harm. He began by smashing into a vehicle which was waiting to enter an intersection before continuing to the intersection and colliding with yet another vehicle.

A traffic incident between four vehicles resulted in severe damage after they stopped at a house driveway in Oevel (Westerlo). A driver who appeared to have become unwell crashed into a stationary vehicle first at an intersection entry point. The vehicles crashed against each other before hitting another vehicle inside the intersection.

Two vehicles entered Tongerlostraat, where they struck a parked van after striking a parked residence. One car flipped over, and both cars collided with the parked vehicle. The occupants who occupied the residence for less than a week encountered unexpected property damage.

What are the road safety trends and accident statistics in Westerlo?

The Belgian Road Safety Institute reports that Antwerp province, where Westerlo exists, registered 3,852 traffic accidents in 2022 that caused 4,218 injuries and 56 fatalities. The smaller community of Westerlo reports growing statistics of accidents at intersections that primarily affect regional roads like the Heieinde. Police statistics demonstrate that medical emergencies among drivers cause approximately 5% of traffic incidents in the region, primarily due to sudden blackout incidents.

Single-vehicle loss of control by drivers occurs in 12% of all recorded incidents in the rural Oevel region, according to Flemish government statistics. The statistics indicate that parked vehicle accidents match the Tongerlostraat incident by constituting 8% of all residential area collision reports.

The N19 and local roads around Westerlo experience more side-impact crashes than statistical averages because drivers frequently fail to correctly judge their positions at intersections.

The Belgian Federal Police established that rollover accidents account for just 3% of all crashes but tend to occur mainly at uncontrolled intersections or when sudden roadway obstructions emerge. The 2021–2023 insurance claims show Westerlo has average accident occurrence statistics, but its property damage expenses per incident are 15% higher due to suburban elements like driveways and fences becoming involved in crashes. The municipal records do not show any major accidents happening in Tongerlostraat during the previous five years.
