Explosion in Antwerp apartment building two injuring and Prompting Emergency Response

Antwerp (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): An explosion occurred around 10:20 am at an apartment building on Julius Vulstekelaan and August Heylenlaan injuring at least two people. Emergency services responded quickly suspecting a fuse box issue caused the blast.

On 24 July around 10:20am emergency services rushed to an explosion at an apartment building on the corner of Julius Vulstekelaan and August Heylenlaan. The blast happened on the ground floor of the building and caused a lot of smoke. Nike Neirynck from the Antwerp Fire Department said that the explosion and smoke caused a big commotion. Firefighters quickly arrived to handle the situation and make sure everyone was safe.

What caused the explosion at the Antwerp apartment building on Julius Vulstekelaan?

Right after the explosion the police, fire department and medical teams quickly went to the apartment building on the corner of Julius Vulstekelaan and August Heylenlaan. The blast happened on the ground floor creating a lot of smoke. Police spokesperson Wouter Bruyns said that because of the explosion at least two people breathed in smoke and got hurt. Medical teams are helping them on the spot due to the seriousness of their conditions. At the same time the fire department is checking the building carefully to make sure nobody else is in trouble. They want to find anyone who might still be stuck or harmed by the explosion and smoke and they are working to make the building safe for more safety checks.

Emergency services think the explosion was an accident. They believe a problem with the building’s fuse box might have caused it. To be sure and find out exactly what happened Fluvius, the grid operator is coming to check everything carefully. They will look at the fuse box and electrical systems to see if there were any problems that could have made the explosion happen.
