EU’s Kaja Kallas meets Pope Francis to discuss Ukraine peace

Vatican City (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has met with Pope Francis to examine, among other things, the need to establish a just peace in Ukraine.

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas talked about the meeting on X.

Kaja Kallas posted a photo with the Pontifex, noting that the conversation focused on the need for a “lasting peace” in Ukraine.

What did Kaja Kallas and Pope Francis discuss?

The main theme dominating the discussion was the question of attaining “lasting peace” in Ukraine. This presents evidence of continued efforts by religious and world diplomats to solve conflicts through negotiations. 

This meeting underscores the role of diplomatic discussions in creating stability globally and promoting peaceful resolutions for protracted conflicts. Pope Francis has been communicating broader messages concerning peace and hope this year while urging leaders everywhere to focus more on these principles in light of increasing worldwide tensions.

Kaja Kallas, in her post on X, stated,

“I was honoured to meet His Holiness Francis.

We discussed Russia’s war in Ukraine and the need for a just and lasting peace that ensures Ukraine’s future.

I also thanked His Holiness for his strong leadership in protecting the most vulnerable & defending human dignity.”
