European Commission seeks candidates for fisheries and aquaculture transition group

Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The European Commission seeks members for the Energy Transition Partnership Support Group to advise on and shape the energy transition roadmap for EU fisheries and aquaculture.

What Is the Role of the ETP Support Group in Energy Transition?

The European Commission has undertaken a call for expression of interest to specify a support group for the Energy Transition Partnership (ETP) for EU fisheries and aquaculture. This group is envisaged as a bottom-up advisory and consultative entity, contributing vigorously to the energy transition of the sector, advising the outcome of the Energy Transition Partnership and supplying input for the development of the energy transition roadmap in EU fisheries and aquaculture 

How Can Stakeholders Apply for the ETP Support Group?

By entering the ETP Support Group, members will have the option to play a critical function in shaping the future of energy transition in EU fisheries and aquaculture, encouraging best practices and contributing to the growth of the Energy Transition roadmap. 

What Are the Requirements for Joining the ETP Support Group?

According to the EU Commission, candidates must represent their interests by 23 September 2024. Candidates must satisfy specific requirements, including active engagement in one of the stakeholder categories, representativeness at the national or EU level, availability for ETP movements, dedication to the representation of stakeholder interests and assertive communication skills.

The selection process for the ETP Support Group will be executed fairly and transparently by the contractor of the Energy Transition Partnership Assistance Mechanism, which will be operational as of September 2024. European Commission states that it aims to ensure that the Support Group is as inclusive as feasible, accurately representing the main classes of stakeholders and ensuring a balanced representation of sectors and Sea Basins.  

What Functions Will the ETP Support Group Perform?

The ETP Support Group is entrusted with the Engagement and input collection: Promoting engagement from all appropriate stakeholders from the segment it represents and collecting inputs at a granular level to advise the ETP’s activities, through meetings and working groups. Advisory function: Reporting on the development of the Energy Transition roadmap for EU fisheries and aquaculture, by delivering guidance and recommendation documents. Communication and best methods: Fostering cooperative communication and promoting the sharing of reliable knowledge and best practices among stakeholders. Support and coordination: Helping the European Commission in coordination with the ETP and donating to the future Energy Transition roadmap.
