Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The EU expresses that if the transfer of soldiers from North Korea to Russia is confirmed, this would indicate that the Kremlin is not interested in looking for peaceful solutions.

The European Union states that if reports of the participation of North Korean soldiers in Russia’s fight against Ukraine are confirmed, this will demonstrate that Moscow is not interested in finding a peaceful solution, but is committed to toughening its actions against Kyiv.

What would confirm North Korean soldiers’ involvement in russia?

This was remarked on at a briefing in Brussels by a representative of the EU External Action Service, Peter Stano. “If the reports about the transfer of soldiers from North Korea to Russia were confirmed, this would mark another level of escalation and a significant growth in their cooperation, meaning North Korea and Russia, defying even more international rules and international law. And this only illustrates how Russia is determined to escalate its illegal actions against Ukraine, that Russia is not interested in looking for peaceful solutions,” he stated.

How would this transfer impact peace efforts in Ukraine?

Also, Stano believes that by doing so, Russia is saying that it is not interested in peace because “it bringing not only military help from all over the place, mostly from outcast authorities, but we are also thinking about using their soldiers for this.”

How does this situation reflect Russia’s isolation?

“It also signals that Russia is desperate in enlisting any kind of help they can get because they are so isolated and they are under so many sanctions that they are not able to do it in other ways and means,” stated the representative of the European diplomatic service.

How does North Korea’s status affect global security?

Moreover, Stano recalled that North Korea is under numerous sanctions from the UN Security Council. “It is a player who severely disrupts the peace and security, not only in the region, but globally, and depending on countries like North Korea only exposes Russia’s weakness and increasing isolation,” he said.
