Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Members of the European Parliament and Industry leaders to meet to examine and define the next actions for the EU commercial road transport sector.
Today on 15 Oct 2024 Industry leaders and Members of the European Parliament are coming together for IRU’s exclusive Manifesto dinner debate at the European Parliament in Brussels.Â
The occasion, getting together 250 pivotal figures from across the sector and EU policymakers, will drive forward necessary discussions on the future of commercial road transport in Europe.
At the heart of the evening’s conferences is the IRU EU Manifesto, which summarises key policy actions for the next legislative term. Centred around three important pillars, people, environment and prosperity, the Manifesto concentrates on solving the most pressing challenges facing the industry.
What are the key pillars of the manifesto?
The event will feature interactive discussions and debates concentrated on the Manifesto’s three pillars. People: Addressing the driver deficiency, improving access to the profession, and improving working conditions. Environment: Re-setting CO₂ criteria for heavy-duty vehicles, establishing an EU-wide grid for zero-emission transport, and coordinating urban access regulations. Prosperity: Revving the digitalisation of transport documents, developing pragmatic rules on vehicle weights and dimensions, and ensuring equitable access to in-vehicle data.
Hosted in the members’ restaurant of the European Parliament, the occasion will provide a platform for industry and policymakers to swap views and propose concrete steps for the future of the sector.
The hosts of the event included Roberts ZÄ«le, Vice-President of the European Parliament; Member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism; Coordinator of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR) in TRAN, Elissavet Vozemberg-Vrionidi, Chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism; Member of the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats), Jan-Christoph Oetjen, Member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism; Coordinator of the Renew Europe Group in TRAN and Virginijus SinkeviÄŤius, Vice-chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism; Member of the Group of the Greens.
