The Hague (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Michael McGrath, European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice and the Rule of Law, visited Eurojust’s office in The Hague on 16 January.
Eurojust President Michael Schmid and the two Vice-Presidents, Mr. José de la Mata Amaya and Ms. Margarita Šniutytė-Daugėlienė welcomed Michael McGrath. They presented the Commissioner with different ways the Agency backs authorities across Europe and further in their cross-border investigations.
President Schmid demonstrated to the European Commissioner how Eurojust delivers hands-on reinforcement to prosecutors by facilitating the exchange of data, creating prosecutorial techniques, easing the use of judicial cooperation means, and executing joint actions.
In her remarks, Commissioner for Democracy, Justice and Rule of Law, Michael McGrath, said:
‘‘Eurojust embodies the spirit of unity and determination needed to combat transnational crime and uphold justice across borders. As we face evolving threats, our collaboration ensures that justice knows no boundaries, fostering safer societies for all Europeans. I am delighted to have visited Eurojust today and to have met again with President Schmid. Together, we can build a safer and more secure future.’’
How do the EU Commission and Eurojust collaborate?
Eurojust’s broad portfolio of movements assists with the critical priorities of the European Commission. Networks such as the European Judicial Cybercrime Network (EJCN) and Genocide Network guarantee that specialised prosecutors link. They trade expertise and operate together in cross-border analyses.
The recently established European Judicial Organised Crime Network (EJOCN). The step is a strategic strategy that goes beyond investigative collaboration. It helps to fight issues such as drug trafficking, organised crime and migrant smuggling. The EJOCN will handle the poly-criminal nature of criminal webs and their skillfulness in adapting to shifts in the criminal environment.
📍 Happy to welcome 🇪🇺 @EUCssrMcGrath to our headquarters today!
