Ninove (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Starting September 2, police will increase security around schools, focusing on illegal parking, speeding and child safety. Yellow card warnings will precede fines for violations after September 16 in Ninove.

Starting Monday, September 2 when the new school year starts, city officers will put extra security around school gates to keep students safe. This means officers will check things more carefully at the entrances and exits of schools during busy times especially when school starts and ends each day. These checks are meant to monitor traffic ensure that parking and driving rules are followed, and prevent any safety issues around schools. Officers will pay special attention to illegal parking, speeding and any actions that could be dangerous for children arriving at or leaving school. There will also be checks to make sure vehicles meet child safety rules like using proper car seats and seat belts. These increased checks are part of a larger effort to improve road safety around schools and create a safe environment for children as they start the new school year.

What are the new school parking rules in Ninove?

During the first two weeks of September motorists who park incorrectly near schools will receive a yellow card as a warning. This measure aims to raise awareness about proper parking behavior in school zones and enhance safety for students and pedestrians. The yellow card acts as an official notice from the police, indicating that the driver’s parking is not compliant with regulations but there will be no immediate fine or penalty associated with it. The goal is to give drivers a chance to correct their behavior and be more mindful of parking rules in school areas.

This initiative will focus on educating drivers and encouraging them to follow parking rules, such as not blocking crosswalks, avoiding double parking and not parking in restricted areas like near entrances, fire hydrants, or bus zones. After the initial two-week period stricter enforcement may occur, potentially including fines for those who continue to ignore the rules. It has been said that by implementing this yellow card warning system, authorities aim to create a safer environment around schools, reduce traffic congestion and ensure that all children can travel to and from school safely.

Starting September 16, the Ninove police will give red cards to people who park illegally near school gates. Depending on the traffic violation they could get a fine of either 58 or 116 euros. The goal of this campaign is to make the areas around schools safer.
