Aalst (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Eendracht Aalst, a Belgian football club, went bankrupt and was expelled from the leagues due to financial problems. Turkish owners left amid controversy.
Eendracht Aalst is a football club in Belgium. Eendracht Aalst went bankrupt and was expelled from the leagues due to financial problems. According to officials, Eendracht Aalst’s fall made many fans sad. They saw one of Belgium’s old football teams break down. The first team was kicked out, and the club was in chaos. Fans and young players lost their homes.
They mentioned that many went to KVC Jong Lede, a nearby club. To honour Eendracht Aalst, KVC Jong Lede changed its name to Eendracht Aalst Lede. Officials said that this kept the old name alive. But there is still worry about the future. It is unclear if this new club can play under that name next season.
Will Eendracht Aalst ever recover from Bankruptcy?
Aalst City Council now owns the name Eendracht Aalst. They will decide later who can use it. They mentioned that this could make it hard for Eendracht Aalst Lede to keep its name. The old registration number, 90, has money problems linked to debts that will last ten years. It is not clear if this number can be used again.
According to Officials, the city council is one of the creditors because Eendracht Aalst did not pay rent. They have not tried to get the money back. They said they want to avoid more issues with the club’s past and future.
In March 2023, the club almost went bankrupt. 2 administrators stepped in to help with money issues. Officials mentioned that without their help, the club might have closed down. The administrators got things in order so the club could keep running. But Eendracht Aalst could not meet the rules to play in the national series. A few months later, the football authorities took away the club’s license. This meant the club could not compete anymore.
The Turkish-led board managing Eendracht Aalst resigned in the summer of 2023. They could not fix the issues. According to officials, without clear leadership, the club faced more trouble and was sent down to the provincial leagues.
They mentioned that things became worse when Voetbal Vlaanderen expelled the first team from official matches. They said the club did not have a proper field to play on. This left Eendracht Aalst without a place in Belgian football.
