Anderlecht (Brussels Morning) – Infrabel is planning a new eco-friendly headquarters at South Station in Anderlecht featuring wood structures to reduce CO2 emissions. The project aims to provide workspaces for 40% of Infrabel’s staff and is expected to be completed by 2028.

Infrabel is planning a new headquarters at South Station along Fransestraat in Anderlecht. The building will have 1,400 workspaces for about 40% of Infrabel’s staff. The complex includes three parts. The tallest one next to the tracks is 60 meters high. Another building facing the street is 40 meters tall and a third one towards Veeartsenstraat is planned to be 27 meters high. The last building volume connects with existing and potential future buildings. The design allows for green spaces on the sides offering views of the tracks.

It’s interesting that they’re using a lot of wood in the building’s structure to reduce CO2 emissions. The lower floors will be concrete but the higher floors will mainly use wood. The head office will feature a restaurant for 200 people a car park with 174 spaces, and a bike park for 188 bikes. Some existing buildings on France Street including Infrabel staff housing and NMBS catering areas will be replaced to make room for the new development.

Infrabel wants to change a building into a cool and eco-friendly living space. If they get the go-ahead work should start in January 2025 aiming to finish by December 2027 and be ready for people to move in by 2028. But delays could happen like what happened with the NMBS headquarters when locals raised objections causing construction issues despite.
