Veurne (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – On February 7, 2025, around 8:20 PM, a drunk father crashed on Heerwillems near Veurne, Belgium. A caller and another person rescued him and his 4-year-old child. The father’s license was suspended for 15 days.

Around about 8.20 PM yesterday, February 7, 2025, someone called in the emergency services to report on a car that had gone out of control. It had crash-landed in a roadside ditch on the Heerwillems lane, Avekapelle, between Veurne.

The vehicle driver was discovered unconscious inside. Before rescue teams arrived on the scene, the caller assisted another person who helped pull both the father and his 4-year-old son from the vehicle.

It was then discovered that the father was drunk. He was treated at a nearby hospital. After his treatment, he was released, but his driver’s license was taken away for 15 days because of the alcohol offence.

What factors contributed to the accident?

The child was affected by the accident and was taken to the hospital for observation. The injuries were not serious, and the child was safe. Local authorities are still investigating the incident and highlighting the risks of impaired driving. They mentioned that the father’s actions led to a positive outcome for him and his child, but it serves as a reminder of the serious risks that come with driving while impaired.

The Heerwillems is a long road in Belgium that connects Diksmuide and Veurne. According to the officials, this road is known for many accidents, and some have resulted in deaths. They mentioned that it has sharp turns and changes in height, which can confuse drivers.

According to the officials, going too fast and slippery roads make it even more dangerous. They mentioned that speeding in the curvy areas has caused many crashes. Bad weather can also make the road wet or icy, making it hard for drivers to control their cars.
