Hoboken (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – All students from Don Bosco Secondary School in Hoboken received dismissal orders on Wednesday morning because of a street power outage. Classes had to be suspended due to a power outage in the street.
Don Bosco Secondary School in Hoboken released all students early on Wednesday because of a power outage that spread across the area. The power outage blocked the continuation of education, especially for STEM subjects that utilise technology. Regular classes at Don Bosco secondary school should return on Thursday, according to Fluvius spokesman Maarten Meersman, despite a scheduled national work cessation.
“This morning, we found out that there was a general power outage at school,”
Says Steven Broos, director of Don Bosco in Hoboken.
“According to grid operator Fluvius, the cause is probably due to road works. They are now working on the repair, but that will take some time, so we would have had no power this morning anyway.”
So, the management decided to send all the students back home.
“They can now get some assignments here and there that they can follow online remotely. But we have a lot of students in STEM disciplines who need power anyway because they have to be able to use the machines.”
Specialist professionals have to assist us with restarting our high-voltage cabin following a power outage to activate heavy machinery for training courses. The power restoration period at Don Bosco continues despite the power failure being resolved.“
After the power outage, a specialised company has to come by to check and restart our high-voltage cabin for the heavy machinery of the practical training courses,”
Says Broos.
“It’s a blessing in disguise that it’s Wednesday. As a result, our students will only be home for half a day unexpectedly. We have also already communicated to parents that we will still provide as many lessons as possible despite the national day of action on Thursday.”
What is the history of Don Bosco Schools?
The Don Bosco educational organisation manages numerous educational facilities throughout its network. The all-boy Catholic educational establishment Don Bosco Preparatory High School operates in Ramsey, New Jersey, as a private institution. The institution started operations in 1915 to welcome students from various geographical regions. Don Bosco Technical Institute in Rosemead, California, delivers its educational curriculum through applied science and pre-engineering programs.
The city of Paterson, New Jersey, performed a demolition of their old Don Bosco School to build a new middle school, which cost $112.9 million in 2017, thus showing continuous investment in educational facilities within specific areas.
During the demolition of the former Don Bosco School, alumni gathered to retrieve memorial bricks obtained by students as remembrance items. Emanuel Capers shared his Don Bosco Tech alumni memories with the school board as he recounts his experience meeting “The Sopranos” cast during their Paterson film production.
“I got to meet some of the cast. So many memories in each of these buildings,”
Said Capers
