Diksmuide (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – In Diksmuide, the fire brigade rescued a cat from becoming trapped in a tilt window this morning. Such situations can result in severe injuries to the veins or intestines.

Firefighters from Diksmuide saved a trapped cat that became stuck in a tilt window at a residence in Berkenlaan during the morning hours. Someone in passing heard the cat’s suffering calls, which led them to notify local authorities. Firefighters managed to save the cat and deliver it to a veterinarian who inspected the animal due to potential dangers from window trapping that cause pinched veins, intestinal injury and paralysis, according to reports by VRT.

The firefighters of Diksmuide received an emergency report about a cat that got stuck in a tilted window at a Berkenlaan residence. The fire department used a ladder truck to gain access to the second-floor window since no one was available to help. Team members rescued the cat and then carried it to a secure location. Subsequent veterinary examinations revealed possible consequences such as dehydration and circulatory conditions, as well as mobility limitations in untreated cases.

Why are cats often rescued from tilt windows?

In Belgium, rescue organisations perform regular cat rescues due to the dangerous condition of tilting windows that pose a danger to felines. Many European countries, such as Belgium, widely use tilt windows that open inward on an angle to create a small wedge-shaped space.

The need for rescue becomes common because cats lack the ability to escape these situations, while their fights with trapped objects tend to make their injuries worse.

Animal welfare organisations across Belgium and other European regions frequently issue window safety alerts to pet owners because tilt windows pose severe dangers to pets. Protective grilles and window closures during unattended periods help prevent such accidents.
