Deinze (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Deinze opposes Luminus’ plan to build 5 large wind turbines, including 2 near homes. Mayor Rutger De Reu and planner Bart Van Thuyne cite health, safety, and environmental concerns.
As VRT News reported, Deinze, in the province of East Flanders, Belgium, is against the plan to build 5 wind turbines by Luminus near Nazareth and De Pinte. They mentioned that even though most turbines are not in Deinze, 2 are. The city says the places where they want to build are too close to homes. People in Oudenaardsesteenweg, Kakelstraat, Karrewegstraat, and Deinzestraat are worried.
Deinze can’t stop the project, but they are officially objecting. The city is very concerned and agrees with the residents. The city wants to make sure that the residents are safe and that the turbines do not cause any problems.
They are worried about the impact of the turbines on the environment and the health of the people living nearby. The city council wants to make sure that the project is carefully considered and that all the potential risks are addressed.
What impact will Luminus wind turbines have on Deinze?
Mayor Rutger De Reu, from CD&V, said the city worries about the same things as the people. They want to send a clear message to those in charge. The city is worried the turbines will be too noisy and ugly, making life worse for those living nearby.
They also fear the turbines could be dangerous for people walking and biking on the roads. They worry about how the turbines might affect nature and the animals in the green areas nearby. By speaking out, Deinze hopes to change how wind farms are planned, especially in places with lots of people or important natural spots. They want the plans to consider what the local people think.
De Reu says,
“The planned wind turbines are anything but small. Moreover, they would be right on the edge of the industrial zone, a stone’s throw from residential streets.”
Bart Van Thuyne, who is in charge of planning for the city, has spoken out against the project. He said that while renewable energy is important, it shouldn’t come at the cost of the people living there. He pointed out that the turbines are massive and don’t belong near homes.
He believes the city should put the health, safety, and living conditions of its residents first, even if it means slowing down progress. The city is worried about how the turbines will affect the quality of life in the area.
The nearby town of Nazareth-De Pinte hasn’t made a decision yet about the wind turbines. The acting mayor, Thomas Van Ongeval, likes the idea of turbines in industrial areas instead of near homes.
The city council is still looking at the plan from Luminus. Officials mentioned that a similar project was recently turned down by a government minister because it was too close to houses. The people of Nazareth-De Pinte were worried about this.
