Vilvoorde (The Brussels Morning newspaper): The Grote Markt in Vilvoorde celebrated athlete Noor Vidts with a vibrant gathering honoring her achievements alongside her partner and trainer while announcing plans for a mural in her honor.
On a rainy day the Grote Markt in Vilvoorde was busy with people who came to celebrate a local athlete. Even though it was wet outside the square was full of excited supporters many of whom were connected to the athletics club where the athlete Noor Vidts competes Vilvoorde Atletiek Club (VAC). It has been said that the event was important because most of the people there were members or supporters of VAC showing their strong connection to the club and pride in their community. The Grote Markt was filled with the club’s green and white colors making a lively and united show of support for Vidts. The mood was exciting and friendly with everyone coming together to celebrate the achievements of their athlete even though the weather wasn’t great.
What made Noor Vidts’ celebration in Vilvoorde so special?
During the celebration at the Grote Markt in Vilvoorde Noor Vidts was showered with flowers showing the community’s deep appreciation for her athletic achievements. It has been said that the atmosphere was joyful and heartfelt with the crowd expressing their admiration and pride in her success. Her partner Jorre Verstraeten who has also competed in judo at the Olympic Games was present and received recognition as well. His presence added to the celebration as both he and Vidts had represented their country on the international stage.
Vidts’ trainer Fernando Oliva was another important person at the celebration and the crowd recognized his guidance and support showing how crucial he was in Vidts’ journey to success. The event wasn’t just about the athlete it celebrated the hard work of the entire team. Vidts’ parents were also present and received many thanks from the crowd for their support and dedication to their daughter’s career making them a key part of the celebration. The event honored not only Vidts but also everyone who stood by her side throughout her athletic journey.
Vidts was really surprised to see so many people at the ceremony saying, “It’s great that there are so many people here, I didn’t expect that.” When asked for tips for young athletes she advised them to “listen carefully to their trainer, work hard, and have a lot of fun,” adding that “everything will definitely be fine.” Alderman Moad El Boudaati and Mayor Hans Bonte announced that a big mural will be made to honor her, and she’ll help choose where it goes. El Boudaati said, “This is the least we could do. Noor has done something amazing, and no one from Vilvoorde has achieved what she has. She’s a great example for our youth.”
