Antwerp (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Nick Bril’s insurance company seeks expert assessment to settle compensation for Joe Claridge after chef’s car accident. Both sides aim for fair resolution in civil case.

The civil case starting today on 4th September in the Antwerp police court focuses on the financial issues after the accident at The Jane restaurant in Antwerp. Werenfried Schwagten, the lawyer for Zurich Insurance Company, which covers chef Nick Bril, says they will ask the court to appoint an expert to assess the damage to Joe Claridge. They want to settle this quickly so they can figure out how much Claridge should be compensated. Joe Claridge’s lawyer, Peter De Mayer, agrees, saying this will help them calculate the damages for his client.

What will happen in Antwerp’s court case?

Omar Souidi, Nick Bril’s lawyer, emphasized that Nick is very eager to be present in court. He believes it’s important for Bril to show respect for Joe, the person who was injured, as well as for the court itself and the entire legal process. Souidi also mentioned that this respect extends to everyone who is involved in the case, whether directly or indirectly. This statement highlights Bril’s desire to take responsibility and acknowledge the seriousness of the situation.

It’s about an insurance case, and Nick Bril was at the police court today. His lawyer, Omar Souidi, said Bril wanted to be there to show respect for Joe and everyone involved. They mentioned that we don’t know if Bril will talk in court. The accident caused serious damage. Nick Bril ran over Joe Claridge with his Land Rover after a New Year’s party at The Jane, and Joe got really hurt. He was in the hospital for months and was in a coma. He woke up at the end of February, but Joe lost both legs and had a long recovery ahead. In July, he left the hospital and went to a rehab center in Leuven.

The rehab costs for Joe will be really high, probably in the hundreds of thousands of euros, but the insurance can only get back 31,000 euros from Nick Bril. Today’s court hearing is just the beginning for Bril, as he has many more court dates ahead. There’s also a criminal investigation to see if he’ll face charges for the accident. He tested positive for alcohol.
