Charleroi taxi driver caught high in Leuven: 44 tested, multiple fines issued

Leuven (Brussels Morning Newspaper): A Charleroi taxi driver was stopped in Leuven for drug use after dropping off passengers. In recent checks, 44 drivers were tested, resulting in one license suspension and multiple fines for illegal parking and cycling violations.

Recently, a taxi driver from Charleroi was stopped by police in Leuven after dropping off customers. During a routine check, officers found that the driver was under the influence of drugs, which can seriously impair driving abilities. It has been said that this is a major safety concern, and the police responded quickly. Authorities are conducting these checks regularly to promote road safety and highlight the dangers of driving while ignoring safety rules.

Authorities mentioned that this incident is part of the Leuven police’s efforts to enforce road safety rules and prevent dangerous driving. Similar traffic checks have led to fines and license suspensions for other violations, like not having valid vehicle inspection certificates or using a phone while driving. These ongoing measures tell the importance of staying alert to maintain road safety and prevent accidents caused by impaired or distracted drivers.

A traffic check on Tiensestraat resulted in a man losing his driver’s license for 15 days after he tested positive for drugs. Out of 44 drivers tested, one was caught drinking too much and also had to hand in his license for 15 days.  46 drivers were fined for parking illegally,  7 cyclists got tickets for not using bike lights, and 2 cyclists were fined for using their phones while riding.
