Cane Corso attacks man in Vilvoorde-Machelen garage

Vilvoorde (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – On Wednesday, 22 January 2025, a man was attacked in his home by a Cane Corso dog when he was looking after another dog. The police responded quickly; the victim did not suffer from life-threatening injuries.

An incident occurred on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, in the garage opening in the Vilvoorde-Machelen area. A man was exercising care over a dog when the dog suddenly attacked him. The street was busy with many people walking by, and they all saw the chaotic scene. 

People saw that attack and quickly called the police for help. Police spokesperson Catherine Bodet said that they received many calls as people tried to report what was happening.

What happened after the Cane Corso attacked a man in Vilvoorde-Machelen?

The Vilvoorde-Machelen police quickly sent several teams to the scene. When they arrived, the officers acted fast to control the situation. They used methods to distract the dog and capture it. This stopped any further harm to the man and others nearby. Authorities mentioned that the quick action of the police helped the man who was attacked and calmed the crowd that had gathered. 

It was busy on the street at that time, so many people saw this happen. We received several calls and went to the scene with several teams. Our officers were able to intervene quickly. They were able to distract the dog and catch it.

The dog bit the man, causing several wounds but he did not have serious injuries. The emergency team took him to the hospital for treatment. The breed of the dog involved was stated as Cane Corso; it is a strong breed bred in Italy.

The owner had to decide on a final step after the attack the dog was put to sleep out of concern for its safety. Authorities say this is one situation that has again and again emphasized the responsibilities that come with the ownership of such a powerful breed and sometimes ensuring safety for even the owner and the public.
