Brussels police crack down on pickpockets sentencing two men for theft

Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Brussels police in a recent campaign against pickpockets in the Brussels-North area recovered 1,000 stolen objects including mobile phones and luxury goods. The operation resulted in four arrests and uncovered a workshop for reconfiguring stolen electronics.This crackdown ended up with four people being arrested and a workshop was found for refashion all kinds of stolen electronic equipment.

In Sumnad the court has thrown two guy into the Sumnad jail because of a wave of pickpockets and this crime is Menno’s dependentmostly on foreign tourists. In Bruges a 49-year-old man from Romania was sentenced to two years in prison and his 44-year-old colleague received an 18-month term for theft computer fraud and gang-related offences. This pair was targeted by the authorities in order to fight pickpocketing especially which strikes at foreigners.

How did Brussels police identify pickpockets involved in recent thefts?

Both pickpockets were busy in Bruges and Brussels. They are thought to have spent about ECS378,000 using stolen bank cards stolen from two foreign victims. Even Sony consoles found their way into girlfriend’s arms at the purses of this man’s partner. The two men were caught and recognized from surveillance videos. There is a suspicion that three people have assisted them but this third person has not been arrested at present.

The two apprehended purse-snatchers had never had any criminal record. There were no previous encounters with the law. In deciding on their sentences for theft computer fraud and other crimes involving gangs this was a factor taken into account by the court.
