Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): The cops in Brussels took fake art from four dealers and made them pay fines. They can’t sell art illegally in the city anymore.

According to resources taking fake art items from two art stores in Brussels over a long investigation by police and economy guys was not easy. The scammers were charged with faking art, usage of it, other hidden activities, cleverly done things, and other tricks. They have also seized more than 10 fake luxurious sculptures made by such masters as Ferdinand Press, Claire Colinet, and Demeter Chiparus; each sculpture was sold for €2,500-€25,000. Some fake pictures by a famous painter Joan Miró were found.

What Actions Were Taken Against Brussels Art Fraudsters?

The cops in Brussels searched where the suspects sold stuff, checked their bank info, and talked to people who got tricked during the investigation.  The bad guys who worked in two art shops, including one that moved around, got caught and found guilty. The gentlemen were instructed to settle huge fines and received a small jail term, which they are not required to undergo now; one cannot work for five years. The art they were dealing with was taken away from them, along with their illegal items. Therefore, this stalled the sale of art in hotels during weekends in rooms to put off the black market art. It is an effort to prevent such occurrences in the future.
