Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A man suddenly stabbed 2 staff members at Sint-Pieters Hospital in Brussels. He was arrested immediately. The ER closed briefly. An investigation led by Laura Demullier is ongoing.

As VRT News reported, this morning, July 19, 2025, in Brussels, a patient attacked 2 hospital staff members at Sint-Pieters Hospital. The attack happened suddenly in a waiting area. The person who did it was arrested right away.

Laura Demullier from the Brussels prosecutor’s office said they don’t know why the patient did it. The hospital’s emergency room closed for a while to keep everyone safe. Police are now looking into what happened.

Why did a patient suddenly stab 2 staff at Sint-Pieters hospital?

Right after the incident, different investigation teams arrived at the hospital. The federal police lab started collecting evidence, while other officers began talking to witnesses to figure out what happened. The public prosecutor’s office was also there to watch over the investigation. A support team from the police was on site to help anyone who was upset or shocked by what happened.

Officials stated, there has been nothing shared about the suspect,” it’s too early in the investigation to know if they had any mental health issues or history of violence.” Officials say they will reveal more information later.

For now, the hospital is working with police and emergency teams to keep everyone safe while trying to return to normal work as soon as possible. The reason why the man stabbed the 2 people is still not known. Early reports say he was sitting quietly in the hospital’s waiting room. Then, without any sign or reason, he suddenly attacked.

The victims were not doing anything to him and were not expecting it. They were chosen at random. No clear reason has been given for the attack. The hospital and police have not shared how badly the 2 people were injured.

Laura Demullier, who speaks for the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, said that an official investigation has started. But the prosecutor’s office will not share more details right now. They say the investigation is still at the beginning, and many things still need to be checked.
