Bruges (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Mayor Dirk De fauw of Bruges has proposed a six-month alcohol ban near the train station to improve safety and reduce disruptive behavior, with fines of up to 500 euros for violators.

Dirk De fauw, the mayor of Bruges, has announced a new rule that will temporarily stop people from drinking alcohol near the train station. This decision comes because there have been many drunk individuals in the area, causing problems for other people. These intoxicated individuals often bother travelers and passersby, leading to complaints and safety issues. The mayor’s main goal is to make the area safer and reduce this disruptive behavior. The temporary rule is to help make the train station area safer.

Will Bruges’ new alcohol ban improve safety at the train station?

By banning alcohol, the city wants to reduce the number of drunk people causing problems. Local restaurant employees and government officials are concerned about troublemakers in the area. They want quick action to bring back safety and order.

People have complained that some individuals are making a lot of noise and misbehaving at the train station. They are lying down in the hallways and on the stairs, and in some cases, they are urinating in public, which makes the area dirty. This behavior has upset many people who work or visit the station, and local authorities agree that it is unacceptable and needs to be dealt with right away.

The new alcohol rules in Roeselare might be making things worse in Bruges. Some individuals are catching the train to Bruges and spending the entire day drinking at the train station. They can drink at café terraces, but the focus is on those who are causing problems. Those causing trouble could get arrested and face fines up to 500 euros. The city council will discuss these rules on Monday, 30th September, and if they agree, the ban will start in October and last for at least six months.
