Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – De Ryck brewery (Herzele), nearly 140 years old, stops brewing. Production moves to Brouwer De Koperen Markies and Musketeers brewery (Sint-Niklaas). Samyn leads growth plans, and a new brewery and visitor centre are planned.

As VRT News reported, the De Ryck brewery in Herzele, a family business with a long history of almost 140 years, is planning to close down its original brewing operations. They mentioned that this decision comes because the market is changing and becoming more difficult, requiring new ways to ensure their beers can continue to be made well.

According to officials, for many years, De Ryck has been known for its special beers and its commitment to traditional methods, but keeping these standards with their current setup is no longer possible.

The brewery has joined forces with Brouwer De Koperen Markies, a brewery known for quality and tradition. The production is moving to The Musketeers brewery in Sint-Niklaas, which works closely with Brouwer De Koperen Markies.

How will De Ryck beers change after Brewing moves to De Koperen Markies?

An Samyn from Brouwer De Koperen Markies says the special taste and quality that fans love will be the same, with only small changes to make the brewing process better if needed. This plan makes sure the beers will still taste the way people expect, even though they’re made in a new place.

He mentioned that what will happen to the old De Ryck brewery building and equipment is still not decided, but the main goal is to keep the story of De Ryck alive through their beers, now made with help from trusted partners.

“A good beer should continue to exist, we are not going to change that.”

The new owners from Sint-Niklaas, who are now in charge of brewing De Ryck’s beers, have big plans. They want to build their brewery in the next 2 years. They already know where they want to put it, but they’re not sharing the details yet. They also plan to build a visitor centre at the brewery. This centre will let beer fans and tourists see how the beer is made and learn about the history of the beer.

The brewery from Sint-Niklaas also wants to sell more beer outside of Belgium. They already sell beer in countries like the Netherlands and Spain. They plan to find new places to sell their beer, too.

An Samyn says that selling beer in other countries is important for the brewery to grow and do well for a long time. They want to build a new brewery with a visitor centre and sell more beer in other countries.
