Beaver-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – With Red Sebastian’s preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, the recently formed municipality of Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht recently held its first-ever EuroFUSION Song Contest for the weekend. It was held in Basel sub-municipality, which was a perfect stage for the event.

While Red Sebastian prepares to represent Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland, the recently united municipality of Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht held its first EuroFUSION Song Contest this weekend, as reported by VRT.

The selection of Bazel as a site was an homage to the fact that the event was related to the Swiss city of Basel, which had been the Eurovision host. Thirteen musical acts, each representing a sub-municipality within Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht, competed for the title of “Best Musical Sub-Municipality.”

The competition was using video features, selected juries and televoting, which mirrors the process well observed in Eurovision contests. Before the performances, a clip of Red Sebastian – the Eurovision representative of Belgium – was shown. The winning act, Beveren’s “Robby G and F.Dot,” secured victory with their song “BKZ” and will perform at local events, including the Beverse Feesten.

“This is the most beautiful experience of our lives,”

the duo responded afterwards.

“We have never been so happy.”

What led to the inaugural EuroFUSION song contest in Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht?

EuroFUSION Song Contest in Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht was established with the aim of celebrating the creation of a new unified municipality that combines Beveren, Kruibeke and Zwijndrecht on 01.01.2025. This newly established municipality on the East Flanders region of the Waasland was focused on creating a common cultural identity amongst its residents and a unified spirit.

The officials organising the song contest were seeking to fuse together different local creative people and encourage discussion on culture in the combined municipality. The event was supposed to stimulate aesthetic expression, afford the community a way to come together through teamwork, and exhort greater harmony among the new common folks from the old types of towns.

The region is thus in line with the European tendencies towards cultural unity by holding the EuroFUSION Song Contest, reflecting the way the old and new ideas are blended harmoniously in a multiplicity-rich and diverse society.
