Arendonk (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A 49-year-old Arendonk resident received a 10-month suspended jail term and an 800 euro fine. The man struck his partner during an argument over the final Duvel bottle.

Huseyin Kalyoncu received a murder conviction for killing his girlfriend, Sonia Parker, after assaulting her fatally in an argument. Officials detained Kalyoncu at age 33 from Edenbridge on May 5 after finding Parker unconscious in their home following her dispute with him over WhatsApp messages. He admitted to police that his jealousy about her social media interactions motivated him to inflict multiple violent assaults against her during the pre-incident days.

“Their house was littered with empty bottles,”

According to the public prosecutor.

Kalyoncu attacked Parker for a prolonged period before his victim fell unconscious. The scene where she passed away because emergency responders could not resuscitate her. Parker received multiple serious head and torso injuries because her attacker repeatedly hit her. Medical examinations showed sixty-nine injuries across her body, which included liver and neck bruising as well as five broken vertebrae with nineteen broken ribs and chest bones. The pathologist found evidence of healing injuries that dated back several weeks before her death occurred.

Parker and Hunt experienced long-standing alcohol misuse, which steadily progressed into destructive violence.

“From 2022 to 2024, several reports were drawn up. The police had to intervene five times during that period for aggression within the relationship,”

The public prosecutor said during the pleas.

What Is the background of domestic violence and alcohol-related cases in Arendonk?

The Turnhout region of Belgium and its area of Arendonk encounter multiple incidents of domestic violence that stem from alcohol abuse. Statistics from local law enforcement revealed that alcohol plays a role in causing domestic violence cases during 30% of their reported incidents.

A 49-year-old man joined multiple substance dependencies with interpersonal arguments, which necessitated physical confrontations according to the recent victimisation of his girlfriend. Belgium has strict laws to punish domestic violence offenders through monetary fines and jail time for offenders.

The high number of incidents involving alcohol consumption proves the necessity for special programs that combine clinical counselling with substance addiction treatment. The Turnhout court decided in this case to provide mandatory counselling for the defendant as it demonstrates the increasing focus on treating the underlying causes of this conduct.
