Cairo (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Arab foreign ministers, on February 01, 2025, presented a unified stance, rejecting the transfer of Palestinians from their land “under any circumstances or justifications” against U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for Jordan and Egypt to accept residents of the Gaza Strip.
A joint statement was released after the Cairo meeting. The foreign ministers and dignitaries from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the Palestinian Authority, and the Arab League stated they were looking forward to collaborating with Trump’s administration to acquire a just and sweeping peace in the Middle East based on a two-state solution.
How does Trump justify relocating Gazans to Jordan and Egypt?
In his recent speech, President Donald Trump revealed an ambitious plan regarding the Palestinian population in Gaza. On January 25, 2025, he announced his consideration of displacing more than 1 million Palestinians living in Gaza to neighboring countries, such as Jordan and Egypt.
He described the situation in Gaza as “chaotic and dire” and underscored the necessity of a change, as he claimed that the area is pretty much a “demolition site” given the violence and destruction that goes on there. Trump said that he had spoken about this plan with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and intended to speak with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as well.
Trump stated that he believes that the transfer of the Gaza population could lead to a safer and more stable environment. He said that housing for these people could be temporary or permanent and that he was willing to work with Arab nations on this program.
