How is Brain-NM helping young people like Noëmie access treatment?
Brain-NM has started a fund to help young people get neuromodulation treatments, no matter how much money they have. CEO Edward Schiettecatte said this fund is for families who are inspired by Noëmie’s story but can’t afford the treatments. The goal is to remove money problems so that struggling young people and their families can find chances for recovery. Brain-NM hopes this will not only help with practical needs but also give hope to families who feel lost, making sure everyone can get the help they need.
Noëmie Raes, an 18-year-old girl getting treatment for depression at Brain-NM, recently went to Dubai to accept an award for Excellence in Healthcare. She has struggled with severe depression and disorder for five years, even asking for euthanasia because of her pain. Noëmie is receiving a type of therapy called deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which uses magnetic pulses to help the brain. While TMS can be helpful, it is not covered by insurance in Belgium, making it expensive at over 3,000 euros.
