On the night of March 8 to 9, a security team watching a customs warehouse in Antwerp noticed something suspicious. Thinking there might be a problem, they quickly called the police. The police arrived fast and caught a group of thieves trying to steal from the warehouse. The surprise of the police made the thieves run away and leave their plans behind.
Who Were the Thieves Behind the Antwerp Customs Warehouse Heist?
The thieves who tried to escape from a customs warehouse in Antwerp left behind two vans at the scene. When police inspected the vans, they found that all of them had stolen or fake number plates, likely to disguise their identities.
After the investigation, police discovered that while a window had been smashed, nothing was stolen. A few days later, the getaway car was involved in a police chase and crashed in Sprundel, Netherlands, leading to the arrest of the driver, who had several firearms and license plates in the vehicle. This prompted police to carry out four house searches in Quaregnon, Bergen, Jette, and Neder-over-Heembeek, resulting in the arrest of four men in their thirties. During the raids, authorities found two airsoft guns, around 20,000 euros, various license plates, a GPS tracker, bulletproof vests labeled ‘police,’ an inflatable boat, yellow safety vests, a blue flashing light, and three luxury watches.
