Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A 56-year-old resident of the Antwerp apartment complex died from the fatal fire. When emergency responders discovered the unconscious victim in his home, they could not revive him through medical treatment.
An Antwerp residential fire claimed the life of a 56-year-old man early in the morning. A fire started on the first floor of the building located on Van de Wervestraat. The victim managed to escape with other residents, but firefighters discovered him unconscious at the location of the fire until medical efforts failed, and he passed away. Fire authorities continue to investigate the fire’s origin. Building residents who spotted smoke alerted authorities about the apartment fire before 5 a.m.
Emergency responders provided CPR to the victim however he passed away at the site. People who resided above floor one successfully left the building safely.
The fire brigade managed to gain control of the fire, which stopped its expansion. The forensic laboratory located at the scene works to identify why this fire started but continues to maintain an unknown cause.
