Kortrijk (Brussels Morning Newspaper): In January 2023, a trio of Albanian thieves committed 37 burglaries and attempted 10 more in Flemish Brabant, causing significant damage. One thief received a 4-year sentence, while another got 14 months. They owe victims €57,000 in damages.

Albanian thieves carried out 37 burglaries and attempted 10 more in their province and nearby Flemish Brabant. Their activities became obvious in January 2023 when they broke into a family’s home in Roeselare. The thieves caused a mess by smashing a window and damaging the floor while stealing jewelry and cash, including breaking into the son’s safe. The family was left devastated and shaken by the incident.

How did Albanian thieves execute 37 burglaries in Kortrijk and nearby areas?

On the same day, the trio carried out three more burglaries in the nearby area.  It has been said that they had a smart plan to steal as much as in a limited time. The damage they caused and the large amount of stolen items show how effective and determined they were, affecting many homes. By targeting several houses, the thieves created fear and insecurity in the communities, highlighting the serious impact of their actions.

Police stopped a BMW last November and found a hammer, crowbar, and gloves inside. Only one of the three men in the car went to court. He got a 4-year prison sentence and a 4,000 euro fine. Another man got 14 months in prison and a 1,600 euro fine. The man who appeared in court said he was just the driver. All three men must pay 57,000 euros in damages to the victims, and this amount may increase after a judge’s decision on March 5, 2025.
