Fire Birds motorcycle club in Arendonk damaged by fire

Arendonk (Brussels Morning Newspaper) –  A fire at Fire Birds MC clubhouse in Arendonk on Sunday, Jan 4, 2025, at 11 a.m. caused severe damage. No injuries occurred. The mayor praised the club’s 45-year community presence. Investigation ongoing.

As VRT News reported, a major fire broke out at the Fire Birds motorcycle club building in Arendonk, in the province of Antwerp, Belgium, on Sunday morning, Jan 4, 2025,  around 11 a.m. Thick smoke rose from the building and spread over the surrounding area. 

Firefighters rushed to the scene and quickly worked to bring the fire under control. Residents nearby were told to keep their windows and doors closed. Several horses in a pasture next to the building were moved to safety. 

Authorities first feared asbestos could be released, but later confirmed there was no risk. The firefighters stopped the fire from spreading through the roof, but the inside of the clubhouse was badly damaged. Many pieces of furniture and equipment were destroyed by the flames. No injuries were reported. 

What started the fire at the Fire Birds MC clubhouse in Arendonk?

The cause of the fire at the Fire Birds motorcycle club in Arendonk is still unknown. Authorities are investigating how the blaze started. The club had held a function at its building the day before the fire. It is not yet clear if the event is linked to the incident. 

The mayor of Arendonk was at the scene and spoke about the long-standing relationship between the municipality and the club. He said the Fire Birds have been part of the local community for decades. 

The club has existed for 45 years and has been located at Hoendergaarsen for 18 years. In that time, there have never been any problems. The mayor emphasised that the club has maintained a positive presence in the area and has good relations with local authorities.

In Arendonk, MC Fire Birds is one of the most active motorcycle associations. It has been around for many years and participates in several events in the surrounding community. Every year, the Fire Birds organise several rides and gatherings, including the annual Kei Kop Rit (‘Kei Kop ride’), which will take place in late August 2024, attracting riders from all over the region.
